The lay article "As if One Stroke Weren't Enough..." stated Mexican-Americans and African-Americans are much more susceptible to stroke than non-Hispanic white Americans. From other classes I also know that people in the Mediterranean area are also much more likely than Americans to suffer from stroke and it made me think that maybe there is some sort of genetic component that these people have that white Americans do not. Is anyone aware of research to this matter?

I don't know about research, but it seems like maybe diet might have something to do with it. and a lot of the articles i looked up said that maybe economic class might affect it too. on the american heart association's website it talks about the risk factors and genetics is one of them but it also might have to do with cigarette smoke, alcohol intake, and major diet components. however it does say that genetics are a large factor. also i tried to look up comparison studies between the US and other countries but i couldn't find any useful ones. This one compares stroke between london, dijon ,france, and erlangen, germany and it was very interesting.
